Credit card purchases

When fraud occurs via credit card purchases, the Fair Credit Billing Act allows the owner of the credit card the ability to dispute the purchase if their card information has been obtained illegally, although the card owner is held liable for the first $50 of the transaction.

Consumers do receive the benefit of this Act, because the money is returned to them, however, this scenario is not good for the business, for the money is extracted for the revenues of the business in which the purchase was made. Therefore, businesses (including Storesonline) now are able to arm themselves with AVS (Address Verification System, the merchant side of businesses has the ability to check the address of the billing statement to the address of the card owner). This will stop those transactions in which fraud might occur.

Credit cards have protective elements in them as well. CVV2 is a protective technology that helps fight fraud in two ways: It insures that the customer has the credit card in their possession, and it insures that the credit card is legitimate.

Storesonline utilizes the ECI PAY Corporation, which verifies credit card accounts and their customer's availability of creditable funds. More information may be found under the Storesonline products that fight against fraud link.
